Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does Companions & Home Helpers have a minimum term of care?

Yes, we have a 3-hour minimum per shift policy. However, there is no commitment and you can cancel services at any time.

2. Do I need to sign a contract?

Yes, you need to sign a contract to receive services. Our CT Department of Consumer Protection Registration number is #HCA.0000234. We are available to you at your convenience and there is no long-term commitment.

3. Are your caregivers employees of Companions & Home Helpers or independent contractors?

Our caregivers are our employees on our payroll and receive a W2 form at the end of the year. They are covered under our liability insurance. We take care of payroll taxes and worker’s compensation insurance.

4. How quickly can we receive services?

Depending on the area of CT, we need at least 48 hours’ notice to send a qualified caregiver.

5. What are my payment options?

We accept payment from Long Term Care Insurance, personal check or money orders. We are also a provider with the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders.

6. What kind of insurance do you carry?

We carry Worker’s Compensation, Liability, Auto Insurance and Fidelity Bond.

7. How does Companions & Home Helpers select their caregivers?

We perform monthly national background checks, thoroughly review employment history and professional references.

8. What if we don’t like our caregiver?

Contact our office immediately so we can resolve any issues between our clients and caregivers. If the issue cannot be resolved, we can also provide a replacement to you.
